Greencroft Goshen Stories

Greencroft is proud to partner with Goshen College to sponsor the Lifelong Learning Institute of Elkhart County. This gives residents the opportunity to participate in fun learning classes that are relaxing, interesting, and educational. There are no prerequisites, no tests and no grades. With a wide variety of topics this program keeps our people’s inquisitive minds active.

Having the opportunity to meet in-person and visit before and after the classes with each other is something that everyone really enjoyed, but this year, with COVID-19 restrictions, the Lifelong Learning Institute had to get a little creative and change the process by offering classes online. While we loved attending these classes in-person, bringing them to the digital world has opened up a lot of doors. The speakers no longer need to be in Goshen to teach, and neither do the participants! Since they can now join virtually, these classes are available to residents who otherwise might not have been able to travel to Goshen College from Greencroft before.

One of our most recent online classes was a behind-the-scenes study of the creative process for this year’s production of “A Festival of Carols” at Goshen College, taught by Marcia Yost. Marcia Yost is the Director of the Arts: Engagement and Outreach at Goshen College. She retired from an outstanding career in music education where her passion for music helped to build a highly recognized music education program for the Goshen Community Schools. In her class, senior learners were able to discuss the music as well as the unique challenges that this year’s production faces. Residents who attended this class will have the knowledge to understand the creative energies that brought the video-streamed presentation to life.

The Lifelong Learning Institute is constantly trying new ways to make their classes available to the widest audience possible, including our Greencroft campuses. With COVID-19 restrictions, being able to provide these classes to our residents so they can continue to expand their knowledge is something that is extremely important to us.
